Message from the President

Welcome back to the 2011-2012 school year! It is a privilege to serve as your SCBEA President this year. I am excited about our organization’s upcoming events as well as the changes taking place in business education within our state.

As business educators, we are facing many challenging situations at this time in our country and in the trials and tribulations of budget cuts. Therefore, we need a strong professional organization that shares ideas and works together. SCBEA is dedicated to meeting your needs, but your membership and participation is essential to our growth and success. If you have not joined SCBEA, please send your membership check to Ann Godfrey today. Our membership potential is approximately 1000 teachers who are involved in educating our students for business success in middle schools, secondary schools, technical colleges, and two-year or four-year universities. I challenge each of you to recruit one new member for SCBEA this year.

The SCBEA Executive Board met on July 15, 2011, to prepare a strategic plan for the 2011-2012 academic year. The Program Committee met and began work on the 2012 SCBEA Conference to be held February 15-19 at the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes. President-Elect Johanna Bodenhamer and her program committee are planning a wonderful conference with many relevant professional development opportunities for all attendees. We will have "Bring Your Own Laptop" sessions, interest sessions, silent auction, 50/50 drawing, a variety of exhibitors, and general session speakers will provide relevant professional development opportunities for all attendees.

Additional conferences are available for SCBEA members. The SBEA Conference will be held October 19-22, 2011, at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, Disney World Orlando, Florida. At this conference attendees will "Experience the Magic" as we network with other members of the twelve-state southern region. The NBEA 2012 Convention will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 3-7, 2012, at the Boston Marriott Copley Hotel. Plan to attend both of these professional development opportunities.

As president of SCBEA I look forward to working with each of you during the year. I invite you to visit the SCBEA web site (www.scbea.org), the SBEA web site (www.sbea.us) and the NBEA web site (www.nbea.org) to keep up with current activities from your professional organizations. If you have a question or comment, please feel free to contact me at Eric.Wells@spart5.net. I look forward to seeing you at the SCBEA Conference in Myrtle Beach in February.
